Season 7 Artists

Hamza Jafri

Born in London, Hamza’s love for music started with his initial training from senior musician Saeed Iqbal in the early 90’s. After his early training, his interest in music grew and his official journey to explore music commenced. Hamza honed his craft using mediums like YouTube to educate himself further and by 2009 he established himself as a professional musician who even opened a music school which aimed to promote music in beginners. Talking about his career, Hamza says,” In 2009 I opened a music school in Lahore titled “The Guitar School”. In 2010 I expanded operations to Karachi and opened “Music Art Dance School. The idea behind the music schools is to educate and develop musicians to fuel the music industry with skilled/trained musicians.”

For Hamza fusion music is all about celebrating human diversity. Speaking about his experience at Coke Studio he said; “It feels great; the overall vibe was good I had a wonderful experience. I hope to remain in the family and add to it in new and exciting ways.” He wants to contribute positively to the creative side of Coke Studio and wants to assist in making it even bigger through innovation.

Season 7 will mark the Coke Studio debut of Hamza Jafri who will be playing the Hawaiian stringed ukulele on two songs with Abrar-ul-Haq and Jimmy Khan. Hamza is a versatile musician who believes that fusion music is fun and did not feel any challenges playing with a large group of musicians. The musician is confident that listeners would appreciate his work.

Describing the experience of working with Strings, Hamza says, “Working with Strings was a pleasure; they are easy to work with and have a democratic approach with musicians towards structuring musical pieces. Best of all is that they managed to maintain harmony amongst all the artists and created a warm family vibe.” Hamza has numerous projects in the pipeline; including plans for releasing an album in coming months, a collaboration with a renowned female singer on an electro-pop project, a collaborative album with rock band Coven in 2015 and Hamza also plans to take on the role of Music Director of acclaimed musical Grease for the second time running.
