Sadness continued to be nurtured in my heart

 افسوس نہیں کہ افسانے لکھے

 کیوں رہی بہار کی کمی بس

?Why did spring remain simply lacking

 قسمت ہمارے ہی ہاتھ میں

 Qismat hamaare hi haath mein

Our fate is in our own hands

 اُس پہ اختیار کی ہے کمی بس

 Us pih ikhtiyaar ki hai kami bas

But we just lack control over it

 وہ لوگ بھی گزر گئے

 Wuh log bhi guzar gaye

 وہ گھر بھی جل چکے

Those houses have also burned down

وہاں اب کچھ نہیں

Wahaan ab kuchh naheen

زخم تو بھریں گے دوست

 Zakhm to bharen ge dost

 Waqt ke marham men shifa hai

The remedy of time has restorative power

 پر وقت بے رحم ہے دوست

 Par waqt be-rahm hai dost

وہ کب کسی کے لئے رُکا ہے

 Wuh kab kisi ke liye ruka hai

 جھکے نہ سر

 Jhuke nah sar

Let my head not be lowered before anyone

 پھیلیں نہ ہاتھ

 Phailen nah haath

Let my hands not stretch out in need before anyone

 ہماری اب بس یہی دعا ہے

 Hamaari ab bas yahi du‘a hai

That’s all we pray for now

 کبھی کبھی آئے سوچ

 Kabhi kabhi aaye soch

Now and again, a thought comes to me

 جو ہوا وہ ٹھیک ہی ہوا ہے

 Jo hua wuh ṭheek hi hua hai

Whatever happened, happened for the best

 صبر سے سبق جو ملے ہیں

Sabr se sabaq jo mile hain

The lessons I have gained from forbearance

 صبر سے اب میری صلح ہے
