    Meesha Shafi

Born into a family of art aficionados, Meesha Shafi found herself drawn to hip-hop as a young girl. Reuniting with producer Rohail Hyatt after a decade of Coke Studio super hits, Jugni, Chori Chori, Dhasht-e-Tanhai and Ishq Aap Bhi Awalla; Meesha proudly proclaims that the national music platform changed her life and the face of Pakistani music across the globe, forever.

Fondly known as Malka-e-pop, this rock icon has never been afraid to explore new horizons. While Meesha began her career in arts, having pursued it as a subject at the prestigious National College of Arts in Lahore, she never defined a closed role for herself; instead choosing to allow self-discovery to be her compass – she continues to explore many art forms including writing, acting, painting and singing. Having worked in critically acclaimed films like ‘The Reluctant Fundamentalist’ (2012) and ‘Bhaag Milka Bhaag’ (2013), what continues to define Meesha’s career is her powerful voice and love for music.

Her musical journey began in 2013 with Lahore-based rock band ‘Overload’. Becoming instantly successful, Meesha embarked on a solo career that celebrated her musical and artistic heritage through classical folk and Sufi music with some fusion of global instrumentation. Meesha’s first incredibly successful foray into the limelight was via super hit track Jugni where she appeared with the folk-legend, Arif Lohar in 2010 on Coke Studio season 3. The song reached over 20 million views on YouTube, redefining Meesha’s career as a solo artist on a global level.

This season Meesha is returning to Coke Studio with a new genre under her belt; rap. Performing a rap number for the first time in her music career on Coke Studio 2020, this season is all set to propel the Malka-e-pop back into the same circle of success that the collaboration brought in 2010 with Jugni.

“Challenging myself in creating new forms of art has always worked out for me. There is a positive nervous energy which is a good indication of something new; it means you’re not letting yourself be comfortable in doing the same things over and over again.” – Meesha Shafi
