    Mehdi Maloof

A CSS officer by profession and an indie-sensation in his free time, Maloof’s work has taken him across Pakistan on many rural sojourns. For many of his songs, the remote locations became his inspiration often drawing out his unconventional inner poet. Famous for being unapologetically real, philosophical and hilarious, this CSS officer’s music has the ability to give hope and an existential crisis all in one go! Since 2012 when he sang ‘1947’, Maloof has been gathering a cult following with his soulful lyrics and deeply existential songs. Each song he sings urges his listeners to delve a little deeper into themselves, and societal issues, to see the bigger picture. In February 2016, a mellow tune called ‘Do Hi Rastay Hain’ propelled this quirky artist into fame. The song encapsulates a sense of hopefulness and comfortable resignation. With intelligent lyrics and word play, this quirky artist has charmed many an audience at the Lahore Music Meet and True Brew Records Studios every time he has had the time to play.

Inspired by Muslim and Grecian philosophy, Maloof explains that a lot of his inspiration also comes from writers like Ashfaq Ahmed; who starts his stories off in a funny way but then delves into much deeper feelings.

“Whenever I write songs, I try to write them as honestly as possible; I write them as an outlet for myself. And that’s the beauty of creative expression; in helping yourself you end up helping many others too. You make a creative outlet that gives other people hope – and music is hope for me and perhaps for those who listen to it too.” – Mehdi Maloof
